Switching GGR provide a
range of network management tools which give physical level access in the wide area
network.
Physical level access products are
used to provide a common vendor independent connection or demarcation point in the
network. It is at this point where passive monitoring, passive or active testing, and
reconfiguration is often necessary for the purpose of performing fault detection, fault
diagnosis and restoral to service.
These products can include a
switching capability for reconfiguration management and fall into three basic categories:

Manual Patching
and Switching Manual patching and switching products are normally
found at local sites and provide manual access to data circuits in the wide area network
to allow fault detection, monitoring and reconfigurations. |

PC Controlled
'Smart' Patching and Switching PC controlled patching and switching also
provides automatic fault detection, monitoring and reconfiguration capabilities and
extends its functionality to include control from a PC in a help desk environment of both
local and remote communications facilities. |

Switching The Matrix Switch provides all of the functionality of
Manual and PC controlled patching, including a completely unblocked any-to-any switching
capability, while also giving Interface Conversion, Modem Elimination, unlimited Test and
Monitor, and 16:1 Circuit Concentration on fibre or copper, as but a few of its
