Remote Access
DialOut

Modem and serial port sharing across TCP/IP networks

Introduction

Using DialOut software developed by Tactical Software, IT managers can now remove individual desktop modems and replace them with a software product without loss of functionality. Through our reseller agreement covering UK and Europe, GGR can provide these DialOut solutions to complement existing network solutions.

Benefits

Reduced cost of ownership
Increased flexibility and manageability
Improved control over modem / telephone line usage
Compatibility with almost all Windows (9x/ME/NT/2000) applications
Toll savings through call origination from nearest location
Improved reach of modem services across the enterprise

Examples

Major corporates looking to remove individual modems will deploy modem sharing software and a compatible access server (almost all are compatible with one or more DialOut products). The access server is equipped with a combination of analogue and digital modems, ISDN (BRI or PRI) trunks and asynchronous serial ports. Clients use DialOut software to redirect COM ports to shared ports on the access server.

GGR have developed a software based X.25 PAD which interoperates with DialOut client software to enable access to legacy packet switched network resources across a geographically distributed TCP/IP network. This has the added benefit of offering improved manageability of the service through an embedded web server. This product offers a direct replacement for legacy pad applications (such as remote telemetry and  meter reading). Using DialOut software applications connect to a pad via async ports and place X.25 calls to remote devices. The interface to the X.25 network is provided by a Cisco router, located anywhere on the customer's IP network.

Requirements

Amost all applications currently in use on a Windows platform with a modem will most likely be compatible with DialOut. A compatible access server will be required, GGR can advise you on a suitable model for your needs. When scaling the solution, the following points need to be considered.

Total number of concurrent users
Level of security required
